I emailed the seller last night and he put some new items on today, and never responded to my question. I think he realized he sold it too cheap...

It's for the better you (probably) won't be seeing that coin. It looks completely unnatural from being cleaned. It looks like some pewter reproduction to me and is not a coin I would want in my collection. I have bought nicer examples of Seated Liberty quarters for half of what you bought this quarter for. If you look around I'm sure you can buy a nicer example while staying in budget.

You know what this thread reminds me of? Actually it's kinda funny...It's like Rudy Gay getting a rebound half court with an obvious clear path to the basket. Only when he goes for the easy lay up, he ends up throwing up an air ball followed by a subsequent number of trips and a tumble into the cameramen...so much for that point

The good news is, this thread...ummm I mean play will be on Sportscenter's "Not Top 10 Plays of the Day".

You never going to learn are you? Still stuck in that, buy it now, pay it later when my money actually arrives but something might happen between now and when the money arrives then I'm screwed because I don't have the money but yet I'm waiting for some <insert holiday here> money so I'll be okay if I just tell the sellers I can pay in 3 weeks because that's when I get paid... blah blah blah blah blah! You should be banned from buying on the internet. Do not buy stuff until you have the money in your hand or in your bank account, period, because I'm tired of your victim threads you start when you screw yourself over month after month..

Not trying to go after Detecto here - but this is more sound advice for anyone when considering any purchase.

    :eek:ff-topic:
So the scale at my new gym apparently is a Detecto model. Saw it and thought of you, Detecto.

I I got a reply, but not the one I was looking for....

Remember, I asked him for an address for a money order?

"Hello and thank you, once your payment clears I will go ahead and send your coin out, it's already packaged and ready to go".

I think this guy is still in Vicodin Land...

I am not so sure that he is the one in vicodinland, Tim.So its safe to say that you (again) assumed the seller would be okay with your money orders and didn't bother to ask, but its his fault for thinking you bound to the rules everyone else plays by. How about you apologize to the seller, admit your mistake, and offer to pay using the other PayPal account? You're an adult now so the time has come to accept responsibility instead of expecting exceptions be made as if you were a child. As for the coin selling to cheap, its a common date and regardless of your assessment, its in rough shape. To resell at a decent profit, especially after fees, it would need to be offered as sucker bait. When I first read the title, and before knowing this was another Detecto thread, I was expecting to see an exceptional 64 or 65 and not a trashed 61-P. I am not trying to be hard on you, Tim, but the time has come to accept reality. There are a number of great 1861 coins, but unless a special example, the 25C is not one.Would you be okay with someone buying one of your coins and then paying with a money order at their convenience? highly doubt it, so stop doing it to others. You could drive a seller to vicodinland.

Actually buyers have paid with money orders before. I have no issue taking them. In fact, a lot of the coins I've bought off eBay were paid with money orders.

Money orders are a very secure way to pay for items.

Whether or not they are secure is not the issue. The issue(s), among many others, are:

    1. You bought an item without the money to pay for it. This is the real world, not Timland/Detectoland/Tim's mom's house. In all the threads on here, have you ever seen anyone else saying something to the effect of : "Yeah well I won the bid but I don't have the money for it."
    2. Whether you gladly take money orders or whether or not they are secure is irrelevant to whether the seller wants to accept them. Again you don't make the rules.

What you are doing is the equivalent of ordering a combo meal from McDonald's at the drive thru. Then you come back the three days later to pick it up. Then when the seller (McDonald's) is nice enough to have your food ready and still sell it to you when you come back three days later, you hand them a personal check. When they refuse your check, you walk away talking about how they are in vicodinland. Or better yet go on a forum and complain about their bad business ethics.

Why does anyone on here care if Detecto has the money to pay for his item or not? It's the business of him and the seller, nobody's elses.

Is there really ANY harm in waiting 2-3 days to pay a seller?

What if you run across a buy it now, for something DIRT CHEAP, and you buy it, in fear of someone else buying it?

About 40% of what I sell gets paid for on the same day, another 40% gets paid for in 2-3 days, and the rest might take 4-5.

The problem with not having the money to pay for something you purchase is that things may happen such that you don't have the money in 2-3 days. You are effectively buying the item on credit without the seller's knowledge.

The ethics of that would be at best questionable with a buyer of the best intentions and ethics. Given the admitted paypal shenanigans, we know that isn't the case here.
