I've been looking at the 2006 1 oz silver Britannia coin and can't help thinking how beautiful the reverse is. (However, I could do without Her Majesty on the obverse.) I also like the 2006 silver Mexican Libertad. Very nice.
So I wonder... What do you all think are the most beautiful coins out there?

Drusus, all the early Israeli coins have a very strong influence from some ancient Judean coins. The coins that are denominated above 100 Prutot are very difficult to find.

wow, that IS a super sharp coin Mik...time to add another one to the 'to get' list...I have seen the coin before and certainly the photoghaph does it justice...this is the one I have seen, doesnt seem quite as sharp.

goes to show how much the photo can play in bringing out the beauty in a coin.

I'm very impressed with the variety and beauty of the coins you've all come up with. I don't know alot about non-US coins, so I'm getting an education.
    Thanks

So Mikjo, what is that Elizabeth II coin? There's not much to go on from the photo. What do you know about it?

I reckon that the Krugerrand & its fractionals are among the most beautiful of British Commonwealth coin designs.Coert Steynburg's pronking springbok design was first used on the 1947 Royal Visit 5 Shillings, but was also used on 5/- & 50c. crowns until 1964.

@craigbean: the Elizabeth II coin is the Silver Jubilee Crown, issued in 1977 for her silver jubilee as queen of the United Kingdom. As Great Britain changed to a decimal pound in 1970, it is in fact a 25 pence-coin, a crown being 1/4 of a pound.
It was issued in both copper-nickel and silver.

I myself like the simplicity of a good calligraphy, like the 10 or 25 cents of Willem I of the Netherlands.

Yarm, that's an absolutely beautiful piece. Roughly what would something like that run if I wanted to add one to my collection?
