While I was waiting for a auction to near its end, so I can attempt to snipe it. I go to cointalk for a minute, and the next thing I know, its 15 minutes later and the auction is long over. I do this often, and has probably saved me a bunch of money. Oh well thats what I get for sniping.
There is software for it. I haven't used it though. I basically decide what I want to pay for a coin, place my bid in the last 30 seconds, and live with the outcome, one way or another.
I used to snipe, then it occurred to me that your going to be babysitting the auction for a long time. Just put the max amount you feel comfortable paying, and go do whatever you have to do, and then see if you won it.
Because if you enter your "max" bid into the sniper, and program it to snipe 5 seconds before the auction closes, you could have possibly saved yourself money. If you enter your max bid days before a auction closes, the bidding could have been driven up, to the point where your max bid is actually reached.
I forget about auctions ending all the time. Then usually I see what price the item ended at and am glad I didn't bother.
On my last snipe I waited until 5 seconds were on the clock, put in my bid, pressed enter; then eBay wanted me to log in again!
