Just got this off eBay last night. Could not resist the toning on this one. These are the sellers pics. I just hope the coin does look like this.
It's a silver grosch from Bulgria, Ivan Aleksander 1331-1371

May be common, but it's pretty. I'm not in this for investment. I just enjoy the coins for they're own sake. I also like collecting coins for their connection to historical connections to people or events

I like the stylized look to it, almost cubist. :D

That's the first ancient I've seen here with that kind of toning. Very nice! I would buy.

Held at the right angle it probably does look like the picture. Nice coin, terrific photographs.

    How much did you pay?

Not too uncommon on ancient silver. Its retoning. After the coin is cleaned after coming from the ground, the silver will retone especially if put in manila envelopes. Even my avatar coin has this some, the photo just doesn't show it much.

Be careful with the coin. These are very thin, and can break fairly easily, especially if the silver has crystallized some.

Sometimes a member doesn't like to disclose what they pay... but in this case, since the OP indicated he bought through eBay, it took me about fifteen seconds to find this coin in the completed auctions.

Can't remember exactly but I think it was less than $40. Since I'm not thinking of long term investment,( or short term) I don't keep what I pay in mind. Have it written down, but my desire for the coin is more important than price if the coin speaks to my soul. If it is one that I need for the type set, but not in love with, then I become more frugal.

Fair enough. $40 is not much for the pleasure this coin seems to give you, so sounds like a great purchase!

There seems to have been a hoard discovered of these, as they have been sold heavily for a couple of years now. Generically, (not as pretty as yours), they usually go for around $25 in my experience.

Not "rare", but a cool looking little 700 year old coin. Not bad for less than the price of a peace dollar. :)
