I went looking for halves today. One bank had $390 and the other about $1,200. Both tellers told me they were already searched by a guy who brought them in so I didn't waste my time and was happy she told me so I got a box of Nickels to go through tonight instead.

Funny how she knew what she had, but still gave them up that easily. Nice score!

Dude, go back and get them, some of the old timers didn't keep 40%ers... I've picked up "searched" coin and found plenty of silver before... always take them all.

I agree with FadeToBlack. Last month I bought eighteen rolls of halves and seventeen of them were re-wraps. On top of this the teller I bought them from looks for silver. I bought them all, anyway. The re-wraps didn't contain anything but the eighteenth roll was a plain looking CWR and it contained two 40% silver halves. The only way to know what's in those rolls is to go through them.

    $9 loose halve nothing
    $100 Nickels

-Got my first Liberty a 1906!
    -also a nicely toned 1939d
-a real beat up Buffalo 193?
    -a proof like 1942s War.
    -23 pre 1960's

I almost missed the War because I have never pulled and a clean one never mind one that looks like a proof. Pulled a trifecta with the Liberty/Buffalo/War pulls.

To each their own, but I'd never risk it... you shouldn't either. Plus, you want to develop a reputation as that guy who will take whatever halves or dollars they get in, that way when halves that have silver do come in, they'll hold it for you instead of shipping it out to the processor.

They didn't make proof war nickels, that's just a really nice BU one. Great finds!

EDIT: That '39-D is sweet too!

I know they didn't make proofs that's why I called it proof like, but it looks uncirculated. I wonder if someone cashed in their collection or maybe a kid who didn't know. I took the picture with my iphone which doesn't do the coin any justice its so nice in person. The 39d looks AU should be worth a few bucks especially with the toning.

Went out of town and had to stop to get some coins. Previous posted some of the results. I did manage to stubble upon someone's pennies dump site. Got $30 worth and only searched $15.50. Not worth it to me going through the rest because they are marked, do not have anything pre 82 and all facing the same direction...yawn!

    Pennies:
    $15.50 CWR - 7 Wheat's

January's first 3 boxes were skunks. 2 of those boxes had about 80% of the coins marked with red dots. Getting half way through one box and seeing all the other red dotted Kennedy enders made we want to give up, but I continued. Shoulda given up.
Box #4 of Halves produced 1-90%
Box #5 of Halves (from a different source) produced 5-40% and 1 Walker!
Box #6 of Halves was another skunk.

That's an interesting perspective, Fade. I hope my not-so-local branch keeps that in mind since I had to do the same exact thing yesterday. They warned me once over the phone 3 days ago and warned me 2 more times in the branch that the box I was picking up was not from the Fed and were dumped by another customer. I smiled at the teller and told her "I'll play the game and roll the dice and realize that I can't win them all, but will keep playing...not to mention I'm SURE (insert extra lair of buttahfat here) you'd really like to get rid of those." She smiled as she hefted that heavy box over the counter.
