Mexico has it's onza libertads in fractionals, australia has it's koala and lunar series in fractionals, so why should or shouldn't the US have it's own version of ASE fractionals? Discuss
Ewwww NO, silver is affordable enough I think for the vast majority of collectors at around $30-35oz.
You wouldn't find the ASE designed humorous on a 18mm coin Chris? Imagine a reverse proof too, it would be lucrative.
If the US mint made some different bullion coins, with new designs (or designs that changed every year); then it would be cool to have the fractionals. But the ASE's are fine the way they are. - For silver, I think fractionals are a way to make more profit off less silver... My $.02.
There is no humor in the government finding more ways to bleed us dry, and that includes the US Mint. Chris
I don't know. The US Mint has many ways to get silver if you want it. If you want smaller pieces just buy silver quarters or go on ebay and buy some Walking Liberty Half Dollars.
I voted yes. Who are we to say collectors with smaller pocketbooks should be banned from buying ASE coins? My only wish is they stop being lazy, incompetents and stop stealing past designs. IN NN this week someone suggest half ouncers shold be SL quarter designs, and quarter ouncers the mercury dime design. That idea simple turns my stomach. The mint is THAT pathetic they cannot come up with something of their own?
You don't have to buy something just because they make it. You are not being bled dry, but you can choose to spend yourself dry. A 2oz coin would be great. As for the fractionals I think they would make a nice proof set. I wouldn't want to see them minted by the million.
I don't know.....on one hand I'm hard pressed, as it is, to keep up with all the issues (that I collect) that the mint produces. On the other hand if they did produce something in fractional silver I'd be obligated (my obsession) to purchase it. I'd like to see some new designs though, and maybe a higher relief.
no one is banned from buying ase's LOL! If they really want one they should be able to save up $35 eventually and if they can't, oh well they probably have other things in their life they should be more worried about more than getting an ASE. (they can always collect cheaper coins, so its not like they can't be involved in collecting at all)
I say if they're considering fractional, they should go old school with some Indian Heads, Buffalo's, Flowing Hair, and One Cent Eagles. There's way to many cool designs that should be revived before they just make smaller SE's. IMO of course!
Point is who are we to say which size is "correct"? They make fractional AGE's, should we be self righteous and declare if you cannot afford a full ounce of gold at a pop you have no business buying gold as well? Where does it stop where "we know better than the other person"? Sorry, but when ASE came out they were less than $10 a piece. I don't think "people should have better things to spend their money on" simply because silver has went up about 7 times in value in the meantime? Sounds like the same type of people who look down on roll searchers or those who collect coins only worth $1 or less. I simply welcome all coin collectors into the hobby, regardless of their budget.
