I think it's like facedesk or facepalm, except with a book rather than a desk or palm.

On the other hand, no more posts about $100 wins bringing $250 worth of silver, ill-photographed lots that included high-grade semi-key dates, $50 coins that sold for $200 because they attracted just the right pair of determined bidders... :)

I haven't been spending as much time bargain-hunting lately, but I would certainly miss the "free market research" aspect.

Not a problem for me. Sure I would miss it, but I have a few sources near me I can go to for coins and my other collectibles.

A few years back, before I collected coins. My computer crashed and died, it took me almost a month to get a new one. Thats when I realized, without the internet and ebay I had managed to save a lot of money.

I suppose if my Paypal account had been terminated I would need to learn to do without Ebay....but that would never happen

Well our very ownest OP is going to find that out now since his payPal account poo poo'ed him for having a negative balance for over 60 days and trying to open up another account and circumvent their rules.

NO! I would lose a lot of money. Sadly, I depend on ebay for much of my income.
Im sure I would live but would have to find another venue to buy and sell. There is no other venue that is comparable for me personally. I have a love/hate relationship with ebay, but depend on it way too much.

Yes. I rarely buy coins of E-bay. If I were to fill I collection I would just go to the bank and order a box of example nickels, dimes etc.

Tim is a seller and merchants worst nightmare and the sad part is, he posts on a public forum that everyone in the world can see thinking people are going to side with him.

Does anyone hear that? Didn't think so, it's the sad fiddle playing because no one cares for those who play victim when it's their own doing.

I tried to be sympathetic at times with Tim, but his last post about opening another account so he can buy more coins so he wouldn't have to pay his negative account balance on his existing account just threw the little amount of respect I had left for the guy out the window. I even felt a little bad about his job woes, but certainly now we can see who's really to blame as we likely didn't get the real stories from him. Sure would be nice to see what the other side of the story when Tim says the world is out to get him.

I use ebay for both buying and selling. Low volume, I've sold maybe 200 coins since I started about 4 months ago. You know, selling $2 wheaties and then buying $40 IHCs... don't tell my wife! There's no retailer in my area where you can walk in and see a display of coins as far as I've found. Other than the Baltimore coin show last November, last time I bought a coin from a display case was 30 years ago. I've heard that people also transact over craigslist, but the one time I tried selling on craigslist I basically just was contacted by other local sellers.

Are auction sites like teletraders any good? I haven't explored other online coin trading venues for either buying or selling, would welcome others experiences. I gather that for someone with such modest sales goals like myself it isn't cost effective for selling. Of course even ebay isn't really - its almost like a drug pusher. "Hey, here's 50 free listings, try it! It'll make you feel good....!"

Then you realize that you don't get bids on your coins like the volume sellers with stores and adverts and the whole bit and end up selling some pre-64 coins for below spot. Well now maybe its worthwhile to pay the .20 to have a start bid over .99 or .50 for a buy-it-now with OBO. You get one free re-list then they start dinging you for .10 - if your $4 item doesn't sell, tick tick tick, -.10, -.10, -.10.

Anyone have any solutions? I've never spoken to a real dealer about consigning coins, but just the word "consignment" smells of -40% retail.

Sounds like there should really be a dedicated online marketplace for coin traders of all shapes and sizes, where reputable dealers can make a fair profit, small traders can get fair market value connecting with other like minded traders or collectors, collectors can get fair deals without fending off sharks, shady sellers with photoshopped  or counterfiet  coins... oh ****, am I now whining ITS NOT FAIR? I've become my 3-yr-old!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!

    HNY everyone :smile

  19. Would it have a large affect? Not necessarily. It just wouldn't be as convenient. I would actually have to talk to those dealers.

After winning 5500 auctions over the past 12-1/2 years, I would be pretty upset. Nonetheless, life would go on and I would have to find other online venues to fulfill the "habit."
