Where are all the mid grade coins?

Here is a question that boggles my mind.

Over the past two weeks, I've watched lots of auctions on coins, and I can make the following observation.

Now, keep in mind I'm only looking at what I collect, civil war and before coins.

There only seems to be two undesirable flavors of listings.

It's either slicks, culls, or damaged coins.....or very expensive, top notch, high grade coins, costing $1000+.

I'm seeing very little in the middle. Where are all the VF and XF coins that can be had cheaply?

Shouldn't you be paying off your debts instead of getting yet into more trouble? ;)

Seriously though, you need to take a break from online auctions, you're only going to get into more trouble.

In a couple days, from internet sales. I will have enough money from the sale of my old collection, to both pay off the debt and make a couple more purchases.

To preserve their integrity and respect in the community, both ANA and PCGS should revoke Tim's membership.

Well - not sure what you are looking for but heritage has some auctions going and lots of dealers have pre-civil war coinage in the VF-XF range. All at respectable prices.

If the ANA did a credit check before accepting new members, this would never have gone down.

Why is everybody ripping on Detecto even though it may be as a friend? Does he owe more than $100? I don't understand.

I'm sure that would work wonders for all the YN's....

....and what does credit have to do with anything? Does the ANA lend me money? No.

Because when someone hides behind a computer screen, it gives them an illusion of being anonymous. So they wait like a crouched tiger, ready to pounce on any chance of taking a potshot at someone. Some people also enjoy making fun of others, just like the school bullies we had during childhood. Most people grow out of being a bully, some don't.....

I, on the other hand, tend to be the bigger person, and ignore them. Two wrongs don't make a right, and when someone calls you a fool, calling them a fool just makes two fools. On the other hand, one fool sticks out like a sore thumb...

Yes, and I notice that your ANA # has a "BY" or "Basic Youth" prefix that is reserved for people between the ages of 5 and 17. I remember when you posted about getting one over on the ANA because the adult membership was too expensive. You really haven't learned anything, have you?

Tim, its like I said, the coins you REALLY want to collect are those that dealers usually do not have.

DO you think its just easy to collect the coins everyone wants? You think it can just be done instantly? Good coins at a fair price are what ALL collectors want, and good material fairly priced sells very quickly.

THe answer to your question is they are sitting in people's collections, like mine. My CBH and SL halves in XF/AU have been there well over a decade now, and will probably won't be for sale for a few more decades. That is where 99.9% of those coins all are. I would venture to say the vast majority of th ecoins you will see for sale for what you wish to collect now are still for sale for a reason, either overpriced or problem coins. Learn to recognize a good coin, and if you find one for sale priced right buy it immediately.
