Mali, The Reference # (KM#10.4) refers to a Standard Reference Catalog published by KP Books based upon the original reference works by Krause and Mishler (KM). It is accepted as one of the premier world coin reference catalogs The VF, XF, UNC denote the various grades of the condition of a coin. VF=Very Fine, XF= Extra Fine, & UNC= uncirculated. The $ prices quoted are the pricing valuation found in the K&M reference catalog. I would say the coin presented in your photos is probably grade "XF". The grading process is far too complicated to explain in this message. Read the NUMISMATIC RESOURCES section of this website. Look under MISCELLANEOUS for "Coin Grading" for more information.
Mali, the 5 Lire is actually a very scarce coin. One occasionally sees a 2 Lire, but it is usually the Soldo denominated coins & the 1 Centesimo coins that turns up. The letter 'M' is the mintmark of the Milan mint,as Milan,as opposed to Turin, was the capital of Napoleon's Kingdom of Italy. The inscription,'IMPERATORE E RE' literally translates as 'EMPEROR & KING'. The side of the coin depicting the head is called the obverse, whereas, the side depicting the Coat-of-Arms is called the reverse. Aidan.
