I love e-bay people that don't look up the value of a coin before selling it :D
Picked up this lot of liberty nickels for only $12 BIN :D

I wouldn't have paid $3 each for those, but my opinion doesn't really matter, as long as you're happy :)

If you can find a 1883 with cents that has any part of "liberty" ledgable for under 15 your doing good. This one just has a real ugly patina but details in the vf-ef range putting it well above a $20 coin. Add to that I'm hoping a nice acetone dip will prove that patina to be an organic residue. even if not the details it does have places it in the $40-60 range even with the ugly patina.

Seems a fair, or maybe even a slightly high price considering the black gunk on the 1883. (I've never been able to "unblacken" a shield or Liberty nickel without damaging the coin.)

I'm hopeing that the redish brown patina is actualy "gunk" that a dip may remove... will find out in a few days once I have it in hand :D

Like Conder pointed out, any black funk is tough to tackle. Disguises real well as environmental damage.
