I am thinking about picking up all the 2012 S mint ATB rolls and wondering if they seem like a good buy and down the road could be a rare low mintage?

If you can get them at face or at a slight premium, go for it.

I don’t see how you can lose, if you buy them from the mint at $18.95/roll – but then, anything is possible. The one’s remaining at the mint may even be lower mintage than the sold out El Yunque.

All I can say on this is that I have 8 rolls total of the ATB "s"s (2 bags, 3 rolls) and I have no doubt that my grandchildren will love me for tucking these away now :D

I think I am going to go for it, just now I cannot order the El Yunque Roll since it is sold out and eBay is outrageous for 1 roll. Any places I can look (I called my local Coin Shops), they either don't have them at all, or they broke them open already.

    You better hurry !!!

The El Yunque rolls are already sold out and the others aren't far behind.

This seller has them for $19.95/roll, but, I believe they are not the mint wrapped rolls, they have been rolled from bags.

@Blaubart...I'm sure many people get into collecting this way...I used to get coins from my grandfather from time to time and never really got into them, but kept them...and he got them from Littleton, US Commemerative Gallery, etc. When we cleaned out his Apartment after he moved to a nursing facility due to his Alzheimers , we found tons of coins (and invoices for those coins) from these places, they just kept sending him stuff, quarters, presidential dollars, war time nickels, some morgans, etc, I think by then, he just put the coins in various places in his APT and just tossed the invoices, we found so many coins, it got me into collecting and now I have a pretty good collection that I will pass onto my daughter at some point (she is 4 now).

I think the El Yunque will come down in price. I would buy the others and watch and wait on El Yunque.

I bough a few from this seller because I'm going to crack them open, so, don't care about the wrapper. This seller is a big time roll seller, so I hope he didn't have time to cherrypick them. $19.95/roll looks pretty good right now, he should be sold out soon as well.

  15. Really nice gesture! My collection will be going to my kids as well. :smile

Do not take my advice, but I would buy the 2012 and 2013 ATB silver quarter proof sets together when the 2013 set is released next week instead (cost is roughly equivalent to buying the 4 remaining S ATB rolls). Reasons:1. They look fantastic in silver. Much better that the clad S ATB quarters I have seen...with lots of hits and marks. Your daughter will actually be able to appreciate them visually as opposed to looking at a wrapped roll of coins. Also, some have argued that these wrappers are not suited for long time storage and could degrade the coins over time. 2. I think these silver ATB sets are flying under the radar. The S rolls may be hot in the short term, but could depreciate over time especially if future year S ATB mintages come in lower. IMO, I think your daughter will be much happier that you stacked away some silver for her, although she can always spend the S mint marked quarters. ;)

Thanks Topcat...I actually already have the Silver Proof sets dating back to 1999, so I have all those in silver already as well as every uncirc ASE released so far (Awaiting 2013), just wanted to see if it is worth putting these uncir rolls away for her as well, for the price I could just pick her up 2 extra 2013 ASE's...decisions, decisions.

    As of 12/31/2012.
P mint sold 1,340,460 El Yunque coins.
D mint sold 1,327,160 El Yunque coins.
S mint sold 1,679,240 El Yunque coins.

Why the big hoopla regarding S mint when they are the most plentiful of the three?

  18. You cannot go wrong with the ASE. It is such a beautiful coin. Every time I show one to a child or an adult non-collector, they usually are quite impressed, say wow, and ask how to buy them. I think demand for the ASE will always be strong. You may also want to consider some foreign silver bullion as well. I like the Britannia, Koala, Libertad, etc., etc., etc. TC

It amazes me that those numbers are so close considering that the P and D mint quarters will be in general circulation. Why would people pay $16.50 per roll for those from the mint.

I have come around to the S quarters though and placed an order for 8 rolls.
