I have just been given a Lafayette 2 troy oz coin from my dad in law... and I can not find ANYWHERE the value or type of coin it is. It isn't the typical commemorative since where the normal comm has "one dollar" on it.. mine has "2 troy oz" AND it has a serial number on the side... any ideas as to what it's worth or if it's even a legitimate coin? THANKS so much!!!
Interesting. Is there any year on that coin or medal? It might be a French pierford, or the worst would be a silver medal of two try ounce, which is well, what is it, at least 20 usd? Are there any denomination on the coin? If you can post images, that will be great. Welcome to cointalk by the way
yes.. it does.... right next to the commemorative part.. it has .999 fine silver.. lemmie see if I can photobucket it..lol.. thanks for ya'lls help.. I really am kinda dumbfounded about it (oh.. and thanks I FEEL welcome )
I think the attachments should be working... so here's the back and front of the coin.. everything is the same except for the 2 troy oz part I've looked all over the web and can't find anything.. the serial numbers are k0312 the only date I have found is on the back where it says "Paris 1900"
I'm sure you already know this but that is George Washington next to him.He thought of Lafayette as another son. Here is the original coin yours was copied from..worth a couple of thousand in this condition.MS64
