I just got this coin and I was wondering what should the grade be?

    Thanks B12

There are many many people here who are better at grading than me. Keep that in mind. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is EF-Cleaned. The surfaces look polished to me, but it could just be the light or the photos.

Why does it looked polished? Or is that a proof of some sort...?

Its a proof---as for grade I can't tell right now--

Is that a proof???? If not, I'd say its certainly polished.
Oh, I see that Speedy confirmed its proofness.

b12, I can't grade acccurately from the picture, but I can't see any mint wash spots or the like, so I believe your coin would grade somewhere in the proof-65 to proof 66 range. Just out of curiosity, is the coin a white color, or does it appear more black. By black, I mean similar to a cameo or deep cameo coin, except without the frost. If it appears that way, I would suspect the coin to realize a higher grade.

Zane,it's a white color. Also can someone tell me why it's difficult to grade from these pics?

Cause Franklins are very difficult to grade even with coin in hand. I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of PF 65.

    Yes, I'd say PF-65.

IMHO Proof coins are hard to grade with photos.....it is hard to see little nicks and marks on proofs in photos also----

My first reaction was that it was a proof. But when I looked closer and compared it to some other photos of proofs, I started to believe that it wasn't and that someone had highly polished a coin instead. It just doesn't look right to me from the photos, but if everyone here thinks otherwise, then I am obviously wrong.

Proofs can not be accurately graded from pictures. Pictures don't usually show hairlines, so a coin that looks like a PF-68 might only grade PF-63 due to hairlines.

they aren't large enough and they aren't particularly sharp. The sharpness is a big problem when trying to ascertain the quality of a coins surfaces.

Personally I don't think it would grade higher than PF63/64. Even with the pics being what they are ( small and slightly out of focus ) there is a visible hit between the E & T on the obverse and noticeable rim chatter.
