I bought the 2012 S ASE set in the retro holder, and the RP has a cut on Liberty's leg RIGHT IN THE GOSH DARN MIDDLE! Just in a 3 second check you would notice the cut. And to the field to the right, three tiny nicks! On the reverse, the coin has 3 small nicks! Visible by the naked eye! PF-69 standards at NGC are 1-2 small nicks! NOT 4 nicks, one distracting! I would grade it PF-67! The normal proof is fine, but it has weak cameo, and it is really distracting.
I would send it back to where you bought it from. I would not put it in my collection also if you ever went to sell it you would be facing the same questions that you are now asking.
In the macro photo you showed, you can't see that mark. What level of magnification are you using with that loupe? As for the other marks, your gonna have to point them out, I don't see them.
A 30 x loupe, but that was the only way to properly distribute the lighting so that the mark was visible. the mark on the obverse is fairly distracting and darn near close to the center of the coin.
A 30 X loop, can it be seen with the eye or a 10 X loop. They don;t use a loop that bid to grade them.
Yikes... I don't even own one that powerful. I do not know the whole story or what else you have in your arsenal but a 30X loupe is too powerful for anything but delicate authentication. Most authenticating can be done with a 10X loupe... You would be much better off buying a 5X loupe for grading and appreciating your coins.
Where did my earlier reply go??....Mods, mods, mods, Send it back if your not happy. Sure Daddy will buy you another one. Insert infraction here (......)
Heh heh, I think it is a bit too late to return it, but I'd be happy to sell it to a willing customer! Oh, by the way, I love the retro holder.
With a 30x loupe you're gonna start seein' moon rocks on the coin. Is the flaw visible to the naked eye?
Seems to be a bit over-graded to me. Alas, mine came back as PR68 from PCGS and I can't find a thing wrong with it, even under magnification. There's only like 40 in PR68 and everything else is higher.
I have a stereo microscope that will go to 72x and no coin is perfect. Moon rocks is right. When I collected US coins I never allowed myself anything higher than 3x magnification, (but I have great near vision). Anything more powerful and I would see things immaterial to the grade. I really don't see the nicks either, but maybe I am way too used to ancients where sometimes I try to see where the head was. I don't worry about tiny nicks.
30x loupe!! It's coins not diamonds. No more then a 10x is needed. You should grade most coins with no magnification or up to 4x. Never 30x.
