$10 for $3.50 sounds like a great deal! Unless they are proofs or uncirculated (which I am sure they are not or they would say that) the poster really thinks they have something here.

Is "shap" another word for silver?

I think I am going to email the poster and see if they will take $3.50 for the 7 clad halves. Hope I get a good reaction.

Please allow my attempt to place a different spin on this...

Have you ever used a Kennedy half when paying for a purchase? If so, you likely will have experienced cashiers who are unfamiliar with these coins. I often use them to pay Thruway tolls, and can say that close to half of the toll takers I've not seen before hesitate or even question me before accepting them. The fact is that most people do not care about coins, and since half dollars are no longer commonly used, many make the false connection that because they do not see them, they must be rare and therefore valuable. Think Bicentennial coinage, steel cents, and even wheat cents.

Another thing to consider is that some people - flea market, antique mall, etc - can actually sell clad halves at a couple times face (I believe there is a gentleman here who does this) so there are those willing to pay a small premium for such coins. The point is that we should keep in mind that while we may see such an offering as being questionable because of our familiarity with coins, we are also in the minority. It is also worth remembering that there are certain things that every one of us are unfamiliar with, so while some here laugh at overpriced craigslist ads, there very well may be others laughing at our ignorance in others areas.

I understand what you are saying, I just found some humor in the listing. A craigslist ad is anonymous so no ones character is really being harmed. I wouldn't flash a persons name or handle in this site's case around to others to find joy in a negative way.

There's a lot of that on eBay, and it actually sells. What can you say? A fool and his money are soon parted.

I could be wrong but doesn't the first pic look like it was taken on top of a ASE monster box lid?
