I bought this today, just for fun.It is slabbed by ICG,not among the top 3 TPG's but certainly in the top 6 and fairly respectable from all I've read.I took the best pictures I could with my older Nikon digital but they're far from super clear, partially due to the plastic holder and my own incompetence.I will tell you that it it is NOT graded FB even though it is a close as you can get.Under magnification, the top and bottom bands are full and the middle band just misses due to a tiny tick in the center. What grade do you think the fine folks at ICG gave it?

IMHO it is always hard to get good photos of coins through the ICG slabs...
I can't tell the grade----but would bet that it is pretty high...my dad got one that ICG graded MS67!
Needless to say I don't think it would really grade that.....

Without razor sharp pictures it's so hard to tell, but I'd say MS66. I can't tell if the marks I'm seeing are on the holder or the coin though.

You guys are good.Speedy wins the day though. It was graded the same as his Dad's but I don't think one of the top three slabbers would have given it anything above a 64-65.The hit marks are on the coin, not the holder.I got it for $25.What do you think?

09 S VDB---I was getting ready to do the SAME thing---

Hey Mikjo----I think for $25 you did fine!
Maybe MS67 is a grade that IGC likes!

    EVER SO CLOSE Bone!
I got a spiffy new rimless magnifying glass today as well and decided to experiment with it and my camera. After many futile attempts,I finally got a shot of the bands. Not nearly as good as they look in hand but I think you can get the idea...a hair away from FSB.(click pic twice)

You know, I think the die was worn. It's virtually a flawless coin.

I think icg is overgrading a bit, I took a 1939 pcgs ms65 dime and cracked it open and sent it to icgs to see what happened, well it cam back as an ms-67 , I understand grading is an opion but so far PCGS,NGC and ANACS-old,(haven't tryed new) were always very close to each other.

Very sweet '39 Merc you have there. DEFINITELY worth $25 IMHO. I'd be interested in knowing what PCGS or NGC would grade it. That's an awfully nice coin. If it's not FSB, then I need to get my glasses replaced...! :)
