I just acquired a collection of coins from my grandparents. I am new to "serious" collecting as ive only been saving pre 1970 coins since I was a kid. I know very little about grading and toning and how they affect values. Is there anthing special about these three peace dollars? The far left is a 1922, the other two are 1923's. Thanks!
thanks for the info. so i'm guessing they are pretty much only worth their weight in silver.... i kinda like the color of the top left one.
I could wrong, but the 1922 Peace looks like polish. I have a few Morgans with polish, and the shading appears to match it. If that's the case, then it would be worth silver value, unless there are any errors that make it stand out. If you could get a picture directly above it, we would be able to see it clearer.
Many Peace Dollars are valued only for their silver content, but to me, they're a beautiful coin and well worth collecting anyway.
This. They are one of the prettiest coins the US has ever made and will always be collectible and valuable for their silver content. I really like the ones with the most circulation and natural toning since they probably have the coolest stories to tell.
I'm doing a circulated Peace dollar book and the one at the top left would look great in my book. If you're interested in selling it, send me a PM.
The Peace Dollar you have to look out for is the 1928-p (no mintmark). Now that you're starting "serious collecting", I'd recommend picking up a a Red Book; it's a good reference guide as a beginner.
Also there's A Guide Book of Peace Dollars by Roger W. Burdette. I just got it and I'm about two chapters into it buy it looks to be an outstanding resource for the Peace dollar enthusiast.
