I forgot about this coin until today, when I was browsing through my collection. Wondering if this monster-toned specimen would be worth submitting (i.e.: if PCGS/NGC would deem this "Market Acceptable" toning). As usual, robec did a spectacular job of accurately capturing the colors (no juicing). BTW, I named this coin "Firecracker"
The colors make me nervous...the TPGs are so unpredictable when it comes to colors. IMHO, this coin could be AT and that might make the TPG not grade it.
Crap shoot in submitting when it comes to toning. Sometimes I think it all depends on what those guys (graders) have for lunch on that particular day.......
Depends on your reason for submitting. If you plan on keeping it as a personal collectible, is it really worth the money to place her in plastic? If selling, and if she grades out, what type of premium are we talking? Are the potential rewards high enough to justify the risk? Of course these are questions you must answer for yourself, but were this my coin, I would not do so. It is a pretty coin, but you would be placing all of your money on the color without a high enough grade to back up any of your investment. JMO.
If you want to slab it to protect it, go for it. However, I would be very surprised if either would grade it.
If NGC graded it, it would most certainly gain a star. The grade doesn't matter as much (it would hit around 64); especially on toners, and the premium of it grading would be justifiable (I'm almost positive it would be a very large one), but as you said, the probability of it grading would be slim. The luster and color look original enough, but the simple wild pattern of it would be the biggest concern. Thanks everyone for the advice!
I agree with others, its so unpredictable with that toning if it would grade. If you're planning on keeping it for your personal collection, I don't think its necessary to slab it.
