I put a bid in of $152.50. I looked up the coin on PCGS and the value is $225. After seeing how much it was worth I was 99% sure I would get outbid. Much to my surprise no one bid against me! This is not a bad little coin, what I thought was scratches, were brought to my attention as die cracks. I think it adds character. BTW, this will be my 1st CAC coin.
That's a nice coin for that price. Bust quarters are a tough series and finding them presentable is not easy. Most all of them have been cleaned at one time or another. Your coin appears to have both nice secondary toning and some luster in the hidden recesses. Very nice. What'd she grade?
Nice coin. A bit of advise, though. PCGS price guide is worse than the prices in the Red Book. You're almost better off guessing a price than going off their numbers. Guy
Shattered die...B-5 IIRC? Nice pick up, Tim. Keep it for a while, okay? In most cases, this may be, but as with the redbook there are coins that they are arguably under on. Just off the top of my head I can think of quite a few I'd happily pay full or top of PCGS for a no problem, properly graded specimen. Needless to say they are very uncommon issues, but the point still stands. That said, I do agree that Tim should stop relying so heavily on the PCGS guide.
Looks like you paid the right price - around 70% of PCGS pricing. If you are excited, then I'm excited, but I would have waited.
Congratulations on the win! You did very well on that one for sure. Is it a concern that nobody else bid on it? One interpretation: People busy during the holidays and thus less bidding volume overall. Another interpretation: Demand for these are low even at that price. TC
