Are any of the few 1942-1945 Jefferson nichels made with the P mint mark above Monticello valuble? Kendall
Hello Kendal and welcome. Yes, the "War Nickels" are made with silver and do hold a premium over regular issues. Here is a site which will give you (somewhat) an idea of what they're worth. Keep in mind that condition is everything... Again Welcome http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.chtml?type=date&filename=jefferson_nickel Take Care Ben
Kendall, the War Nicks,as they're commonly known as have 35% silver in them. That is why they are so popular with American coin collectors & non-U.S. collectors of American coins. Aidan.
They are circulated. I have two large containers of nickels my father-in-law left me. My daughters went through some of them last night and found more with mint marks S,D, and P. Kendall
Hi Kendall, As you are going through them if you find a 1944 with no mint mark that would be a Henning counterfeit nickel . Henning made thousands of them and they do sell for about $25.00 each very interesting story, you can learn all about it by going to the top of page for search and type in Henning counterfiet or 1944 no-p.
Thanks bruce 1947. I do believe I did see some of those but now I am going to have to go through them all over again to find them. Kendall
