Found this yesterday. My understanding is that it is a cud, more specifically an "atheist cud" (please correct me if I am wrong). It's not in the best condition and I found varying price possibilities online. Wanted to get people's thoughts here as to what it may be worth (if anything). Thanks for the help.
That is a very nice example of a cud. Note how weak the letters are on the reverse because some of the metal flowed into the break rather than the letters. I have no idea what it would be worth, though. On another note, the idea of it being called an "atheist cud" is most likely a term some lame-brained seller dreamed up to sell one similar. It reminds me of another lame-brained person who found a MA SQ that had a die crack extending from the figure's crotch southwest toward the rim and he named it the "Pi$$ing Minuteman". I find no humor nor relevance to collecting in such terms. Chris
That is a very nice cud coin! I agree with Chris regarding any kind of name for the cud. A cud is a cud.
Thanks for the input so far guys. I'll have to try and find the exact link from google, but if I remember correctly it was someone selling on ebay calling it an atheist cud. That's what I get for believing something from ebay.
The term "athiest cent" came about if a cud wiped out a part or all of GOD in the motto. It's a term used by more than just ebayers. Coins like yours do fetch a premium and the bigger the cud the bigger the premium. Yours is a good one.
Thanks for the information d.t.menace I really appreciate it and that is great news to hear. I only started collecting in November and haven't found many error coins so this is all very new to me. The information I have received from this forum has been great though.
This seems to be the closest one to mine I can find on ebay, I am curious to see what it ends up going for. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Error-penny...75?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a7ce47a53
