As a former service man (US Navy), I find this very offensive.

I believe US comm's are spoken for in the near future. A private mint will probably do it first.

Yeah, a private mint will take that idea on first, along with a Colin Powell medal. ;) It will be years before the US Mint honors the General Norman Schwarzkopf with a medal. I am thinking at least 20 years.

No worries. The general would probably get a chuckle out of it too.

Maybe we can get a General Westmoreland medal to go with it.

    :)

While a great service man he was...I feel that there are many other Generals who would deserve their place on a commemorative coin long before General Schwarzkopf does. IMHO of course.

Against the hagiography of Schwarzkopf, the Times noted a critical analysis yesterday:

"...General Schwarzkopf {was} a second-rate commander who took credit for allied successes, blamed others for his mistakes and shouted at, but did not effectively control, his field commanders as the Republican Guard slipped away."

Desert Storm was almost a bad joke; the last 9 years, however have been brutal. IMO Petraeus was more skillful, effective & shrewd - in other words, the most successful US military leader in our times. (Adultery flap notwithstanding.)

Schwarzkopf can be forgotten... like McChrystal, Franks or some of the other Bush-league Commander cronies who botched the Iraq/Afghanistan effort.

Clearly you did not serve in Desert Storm. If you did, you'd not write garbage like this.

I didn't serve in Desert Storm. Nor is that a prerequisite to having an American opinion about that particular waste-of-my-tax-payer-dollars.

This is not Nazi-Germany, morgandude11. Glad to inform ya!

Waste of taxpayer dollars for people to service their country and die for it? You have a heck of a nerve.

Wow, this isn't where I thought or hoped this thread would go. If the mods would like to delete it, please do. None of this was my original intent when posting.

Your OP thread was handled well. You deleted the comment that might offend, and I was very appreciative. However, I did lose friends in Desert Storm, and served there, and having that other guy trivialize it ticked me off. Thanks for deleting your comment. :)

Guys...I would recommend you steer this thread back on track. Consider this a warning...no more political discussions.

Thank you for your service Morgandude!

I think a commemorative would be cool.
