If you were to LEGITIMATELY tone a coin...

I finally understand your question. Others have posted threads on this in the past, and I think the consensus is to use an album that has high sulfur paper/cardboard holders and store the coin in a sulfur rich environment. Check every year or so to see progress. Once any toning starts, move to a lower sulfur environment. Check every year or so to see progress. Once toning reaches desired state (anywhere from 6 mo to 15 years, depending on where you live), remove from sulfur rich environment and storage materials.

All that said, you're more likely to end up with brown/black coins than rainbow ones.

They look to be the very same thing. Lots of different places sell Coin World holders.

Hopefully those plastic pages you are using to hold the 2x2s don ot have any PVC in them. Lots of them do have PVC. And that would be far, far worse than any album could ever be.

Even if they're in the 2x2s? Thanks, that's something I have to check out and follow up with.

This link describes the archival quality 20-pocket 3-ring pages available from Wizard Coin Supply. You will note that the archival pages are made of polyester & they do not include the thumb-hole for pushing the 2x2 out of the pocket. The archival pages are much more stiff than standard PVC pages.

I use the archival pages & I am very content using them.

Just checked -- my pages are specifically acid free archival quality from BCW supplies. States 'no PVC' and 'made in USA'

Yes. That is because PVC residue on coins is caused by gasses, not by direct contact with the material.

As the softening agent in the PVC breaks down it turns into a gas. That gas then passes through the air and condenses on the coins creating the PVC film on the coins that does all the damage. So even coins in 2x2s, or other coin holders (any other coin holders), if stored in an area where there is PVC plastic flips or pages, that PVC gas can and will get on the coins because no coin holder is airtight.

    Good !

Now all you have to worry about is the damage that the 2x2s can cause.

Try to find some old cigar boxes. lay coins flat on the bottom of the box and rotate every 2 months. Place cigar boxes up high in the garage or in the attic during the spring to summer months, move to the basement during the winter.

Seven years in 2x2's in a red box in missiouri in a storage unit my wisconsin quarters started toning. Those that had the best toning were those that the film was bearly knicked--I was thinking of using them the next time I went to the laundry mat--2004-p's not the 'd'.
