Hello All: Still going through all these coins (I am not a collector... This is not a hobby... I am not a collect...) oh where was I. Yessss I have come across the first coins that I cannot connect with a country. Anyone heard of the Republic of Osterreich? Sounds German but no luck there. They are not old (1947) so I am stumped. They are aluminum with a value of 1S and the other has the words Funfzig Groschen on the reverse side (or it could be the front for all I know :goof: ) Anyway I will be waiting for someone to help out the noob. Thank's Mike Ohhhh by the way, Just realized this hobby (not that it's my hobby) has a dark side. Just remembered that I am alergic to several metals many of which are used to make coins! My eczema is going crazy.
Mike, the coin inscribed 1S is an aluminium 1 Schilling coin.Prior to the changeoever to the Euro, there were 100 Groschen in 1 Schilling. The official language of Austria is German, but in reality,Austrians speak a different dialect to that of Germany. Aidan.
