What is "evasion copper"?

    It looks like a Hibernia Penny, or Halfpenny.

    Thanks for the article. So were these minted in the UK or in the US?

    Probably UK and Ireland. But there was no central mint of course. Apparently lots of folks were making them, akin to the Conder tokens. I wonder if they're considered a sub-set of the Conder tokens, in fact...

    A lot of them made their way to America, which is why they're considered colonial coins.

    It is a George 1 currency issue and dated between 1717-1719.

    Evasion tokens arne't actually coins since they are counterfeits, but they were commonly produced and circulated widely.

    There is some overlap between evasives and Conders. A moderate number of evasives were cataloged as Conders in Atkins book from 1890. Some of these were carried over into Dalton and Hamer, and then Cobwright's book on evasives.
