I have received this coin for christmas and it is my very first 2 cent piece, my dad doesn't know much about them either but we both thought that it was an amazing coin. I am considering sending it into either NGC or PCGS to get it certified,... I believe it is either Brilliant Uncirculated or Gem Uncirculated. It would help me a lot if anyone knows how to grade 2 cent pieces and wouldn't mind helping me out. Thanks -Kyle (Sorry about the pictures, my moms camera broke so i had to use an older one )
Pop it out of the flip and get some more light on it. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for anyone to give you opinions.
Beautiful, I love the odd denominations. It looks AU to me, but I t may just be to the darkness of the image. Try to get a little more light on it.
I collect the two cent series but agree that much more light on the coin would be very helpful. Tried to upload a MS64BN for comparison but it appears that photobucket didn't feel like cooperating. I'll try to remember to upload them tomorrow.
The glare and low light really hurt any interpretation of the coin as does the slightly out-of-focus image. However, the obverse has an MS feel to it while the reverse has an AU feel to it. If it helps any, below is an MS65RD- http://wsm.ezsitedesigner.com/share/scrapbook/23/239107/WTBR2C1865N65.jpg
Here are a couple more pics. These are the best I can get with the camera and the lighting that I have. I also think that there is a die crack by the bottom of the wreath next to the word "UNITED"... would that add any value?
Anyone? I want to send it in, but if it woun't grade above what i'm going to be into it then i'll just hold onto it.
If both sides are toned, they will most likely grade it RD. It looks very nice. It appears to be MS to me, but Im not a grader. A RB 2 cent coin should be sent in for grading IMO.
The WE is one of the first things to go, along with the arrow points IIRC. A lot of the features are protected on the 2-cent piece and makes it harder to grade by pictures. After seeing the new set of pics, I would venture a guess at XF+/AU with possible details grade after I noticed that black marking inside the shield. The wear I see on the leaves in the largest/zoomed picture makes it more worn than you can see in the first set of pics.
