Die cracks don't detract from the eye appeal of 19th-century issues for me. Neither do clashes. They're a part of the charm of older coins, imo.

OMG! It might be because it is the only part of his post we understand? :)

I agree (as do many others), but did you look at the link? It could just be my old eyes, but I see nothing to "OMG" about, especially die cracks. :eek:ld-guy-smile:

I've got two 13-year-old boys and they start practically every conversation with OMG! :)

So how can you tell the difference between a die crack and a scratch. I wouldve assumed that was an early scratch

My apologies, Frosty! I didn't notice your sig line.

If it's any consolation, I was born in Rockville in 1947, and I worked in Chevy Chase for 6 years. LOL!

A die crack would be raised and a scratch would be indented.

They look raised to me, which would make them die cracks.

Sorry, but those are clearly scratches, my friend. The sellers even states as much.

Yes, they're scratches. Scratches displace metal leaving raised ridges.

No problem... mine are not so hot either. One thing you might want to consider is that certain scratches can have a raised appearance too. This results from metal being displaced instead of removed.
