When I first started out collecting Silver, I solely went for coins. I looked and still do look through rolls constantly and would even buy some off ebay or go to my local coin shop to buy some cool silver quarters dimes or halves. Lately I've been really interested in bullion. I've sold most of my coins off except for some nice ones and bought rounds and bars with the money instead. Do you guys think this is wise? I just feel like it is hard to start a nice coin collection with all the rare dates there are out there that cost thousands of dollars to get!

I think most people get into bullion for wealth preservation or investing. Conversely, people get into coin collecting because...well...that's a little harder to answer ;) but they collect for less tangible reasons such as a coin's history, design, rarity, sentimental attachment, and even investing (weather a wise choice or not). I started out in bullion but moved to numismatics. I liked the "junk" silver too much to just buy Franklins and dollars for melt.

Yeah, I guess I am mostly just into collecting in the hopes that I'll buy something and down the line, it'll be worth more. I feel like with collecting high value coins, it's much more difficult for the prices to fluctuate, especially if they are worth significantly more to collectors than the silver price is at...

I think im the same shape as you, i love coinroll hunting and do it daily. But for me its more of finding it and i love reading about the history of the coins or the process. But as far as just sitting on them it doesn't intrigue me yet. I think ill spend my money on silver ASE's though just because i like them.

It has been my experience that most coin collectors prefer their silver bullion to be in the form of government issued silver. In other words, as silver coinage or modern one-ounce silver coins. Silver bars and privately minted silver rounds are less liquid in the market and often sell at a slight discount to government issued silver.

Gotta decide what it is you want to do friend. Do you want to collect or do you want to invest? The two are mutually exclusive......

Nothing wrong with selling off things you don't want to buy things you'd rather have. You can invest in bullion and still collect coins that you want for whatever other reason you have. A nice collection doesn't have to consist of rare and expensive coins.
