Went and meet Mr Robec and he took me to a great coin shop where I picked up this 1936 Proof Lincoln for $16.50 and the 70-S for $1.00
I was looking thru my collection of wheat cents and doing some research on coppercoins.com and stumbled across this little tresure I had. It is a 1958-D 1MM-021 D/D/D/D/D W, NW, & SW & SW RPM Crawford: CRPM-002 and WEXLERS: WRPM-021. I am not sure of the grade since I am not good at grading them but I would assume that its at least UNC. If I am correct then this is indeed a tresure find for me since the value of it for the error places it at around $60. Not bad for buying 100ct wheat cent bags for $5.00. Let me know your thoughts.
There was 7 in one Bu bank roll with the lathe mark or die re polishing marks. or it also could be air trapped under copper/zinc layers when planchet was made???
You bought a 36 proof for $16? Let me know if you want to double your money, I'd buy it in a heartbeat because I still don't have one.
Yeah I picked it up for $16.50. It was tagged as impared. I am assuming because it has carbon spots on it but I am still checking it out to make sure. I dont understand why it was listed so low especially with the mintage it has.
Yea, it is impared. Someone tried to use MS70 on it IMO. Nonetheless, it's still a rare coin and it fills a serious hole. I don't normally buy problem coins but this is one exception I'd make because they are so rare.
Agree, Gonzo... you did very well on that pickup... carbon spots or not. It's not often you (a collector) can buy a coin that you can sell for profit the next day... It's the Christmas season, and you should feel warm and fuzzy. Great pickup.
Ok so is there anything I can do to help this coin? I dont know what MS70 is but I am assuming its a bad thing lol.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MS-70-COIN-...773?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d366720b5 Not necessarily bad, but it has a tendency to turn copper coins blue.
I only know of this from hearsay, but I would believe that once it is blue, it will stay blue shy of harsh cleaning.
ok so the blue marks are from MS 70. So then this is not a coin to send in for grading oh well. I cant complain at the price I paid.
What makes a MS Lincoln proof like? Does it have the squared edges? Is it just more reflective then a ms coin? Thanks for letting me know.
I think has to do more with how new the die is and when the coin was struck. It displays characteristics of a proof coin and is more reflective.
Gijoe76; Your 1978 D Cent is a primo example of the Lincoln Memorial Cent. Congratulations on having the highest grade so far.
