I got this in change a few years ago; a bright eagle on the reverse of a 1995 Washington quarter 1995 Quarter Error Eagle.JPG . The eagle itself is much more of a silver color than its surroundings. If someone did this outside of the mint, then they did a great job! How could this happen at a mint?

    It looks like paint.

I don't think the eagle is brighter, more like the fields are darker or messed with. Eagle is the color of a quarter and the fields look yellowish.

Definitely done post mint. There are many companies that put out "gold" plated, or colored sets.

Thanks. I'll take another look. It's only the reverse that has the different toning; the obverse is normal. Not sure why a company would do this since the difference in toning is relatively subtle as opposed to bright and flashy with lots of contrast (e.g., gold versus silver)

IMO, it was allowed to tone and then the toning was polished off of the eagle.

Yeah. On second glance, that's exactly what it looks like.

I like the look of that quarter. When I get a nice toned quarter in my pocket change I'll take some Brasso to the eagle... carefully.
