Thad's advice about simply consigning to Heritage is probaly the safest and best advice you'll get. Congrats on a great find and good luck if it goes up for auction!
Heritage will most likely send the coin to PCGS. It will benefit both you and the auction house. Who ever said that the coin might be a red brown is off their rocker. That coin is a solid red from the pictures in the Original Post. I wouldn't be surprised if it graded one point higher. Looks like a very nice coin from where I am sitting. Congrats again! Tom
Anacs.graded coins YES...listen to BADTHAD...HA is your best bet... I have seen a 1992 d cam NGC graded scratched unc details....love that coin....but it is not listed in the pop reports ANACS pop reports seem not up to date... I did get a chance to examine the 1992 D cam sold at summer FUN through HA...yours looks better... the one sold had 2 less than 1/16th inch scratches on the reverse.... nice coin..great find...GOOD LUCK
Well its been awhile sence I last talked with anyone but I took my 92d cam to the last show of the year they had in vegas and it crossed over with verification its now in a pcgs holder graded ms64 red close am penny now im talking to an auction house about selling this gem they last one that graded this high sold for $20,700 so im looking forward to see what mine will bring in .
Really nice find and cool story. Congrats on the crossover to PCGS and good luck on the sale. The FUN show is the a large coin show in Florida.
Love stories like these. There was a thread similar to this that included the original post from when the person found a Close AM and asked if it was valuable or not. The thread followed and detailed the entire journey of discovery through it's eventual sale. That thread was a few pages long and I really enjoyed reading all the posts that told the story. Keep searching and keep posting.
I thought that PCGS no longer puts the rd designation on their slabs, or was it they do not have their money guarentee on the red designation?
Just go with Heritage. They have an existing track record with this variety. It should bring between $10-20k and is not something I would gamble with. There is no guarantee with auctions except an agreed upon reserve. With a coin like this, anything is possible at auction so long as there are a minimum of two interested parties. This variety could easily increase or decrease in the long run, so I am not sure what to advise in terms of timing except to trust the auction house if you want to sell it.
Awesome find! Could you tell us more about the moment you discovered this coin? Were you looking through a roll of 1992's? Did you know right away what you had in your hands? What was your reaction? Congratulations and good luck!!!
New 2 this. I had to ask and I believe that this error coin has a few different color categories like rdbrown brown red it had been already graded through anacs so when I took it in I asked them to list it as it already was red. Hope I answered your question. Chris ....
WOW! Congrats.. If I were you, I rather keep this coin on the same holder nice grade MS64RED. If you want to sell it by yourself then list it to ON LIne Auction with reserve or BUY IT NOW or BEST OFFER! GOOD LUCK!
