Which would you prefer? Your choice!

    In my order of preference:

    1) Save the money, do more roll searching, buy a bigger gold coin as close to spot as you can get it (you CAN find them) or a 5 oz ATB puck for as close to spot as you can get it - you want something impressive...these are HUGE coins. I've decided to put my roll searching money into a collection of these.

    2) Buy the 1/10 oz gold now for as close to spot as you can get it. Always cool to be able to say you HAVE a gold coin. Then you can get another one. Then a bigger one.

    3) Buy older 90% that you can cherry pick for extra varieties/extra money. I save all the lower mintage stuff (like 1955 D Washington Quarters) that are just not that easy to find...

Of course, I recently traded my last group of 40% halves for a 1936 S San Diego PCGS MS64...so that's what I actually DID with mine. But that's before I planned to put together an ATB 5 oz set.

FWIW, one good thing about Salt Lake City is that it's ALWAYS easy to sell silver halves (90% and 40%) for full melt. Every recent listing I've posted on KSL has sold within an hour and had multiple people on the "waitlist."

I like that idea, buy the 1/10 AGE just to have my gold coin. And save up for a larger one for the future roll searching. ( I don't have time to do much roll searching but I would use those coins to go towars gold). It is all going to come down to if my LCS nhas the AGE Friday, if not its going to me 90% silver.

Plus, the other thing I like about having a gold coin is that now, when I open Kitco's app, I don't just look at the silver price. I get excited if gold goes up!
(Plus, I can show my dancer friends a real gold coin...and they get really excited about THAT!)

You make an excellent point there! I look at silver every day, but hardly pay as much attention to gold prices as I do silver.

Dangerous thinking. You made the money when you found the halves, no matter what they are worth the silver value today.

When you start rationalizing the way you are here sir you can make some bad decisions. I am not telling you to do either thing, just know your investment in either will be $180+. That profit is in your pocket today. From a cash flow perspective you may be correct, but that is irrelevant to profit.

Sorry, I have just seen people twist some logic like this and make bad decisions because of it.

I defiantly know what you are saying and I don't think like that. But can't hide the fact that I will probably buy a gold coin with halves I bought for face.

As you know already getting full spot for 40% is a great deal. I typically sell mine to customers or other dealers for 90% of spot when I have them. Secondly the AGE of course has a premium, but some dealers pay for the premium more than collectors do. I was at a coin show set up locally and I bought an AGE for spot (over Thanksgiving) for $175.00. I could've kept the beautiful coin or I had the option of selling it for $15.00 over spot to another dealer. I chose that option and made more that way then I probably could've in the near term. If you had that option that's what I'd do. Sell the 40%, buy the AGE, flip that if possible and maybe have even more in your pocket! Also check around for the best prices on silver. I usually can find 90% silver at a slight discount than melt.. but with it getting hit so hard this last week, finding silver at melt is a pretty decent price. Hope that helps!

Well I sold those 40% halves to that guy for spot today. I didn't get the 1/10 AGE I wanted because my LCS didn't have any today. Instead I took my profit and bought 90% coins, which I am happy with, beats having the 40% halves.
