    Hello,

I am new to the forum and find it to be a great resource in learning about coins. I know there are collectors from all over the world. If some of you members from the New York City area can tell me about coin dealers around here that would be sweet. I only know of one place and it's on 4th Avenue and 86th street in Brooklyn. Well I hope people near me will chime in and post their local spots.

    Thanks

I think if you post your question at a more reasonable hour (most coin collectors are asleep at three o'clock in the morning) you might get some responses. Or you could try google if no one recommends any dealers in the NYC area (and for some reason, I get a feeling dealers in this particular area may be charging a "location premium").

Hmm, the initial post was made three days ago. How many days in a row do you guys tend to sleep? ;) And sorry, I don't know of any coin dealers in New York ...

Thanks Christian. It seems criticizing is a regular occurrence on this page.

No one is criticizing, just being realistic.

Realistically speaking I originally posted this 3 days ago. Why should it matter what time I posted it and why do we need to hear it from you when it says it under my post? If your not here to help what are you here for? And by the way google does not show every small dealer in the community. I've done google searches already. Thanks for sidetracking my thread and making the subject irrelevant.

Wow... you have to calm down my friend. Posting at 3:00 AM will get you minimum response (if any), or don't you realize that? If the "recent thread" list cycles through before New Yorkers are waking up, you won't get a reply. Your question is location specific, so you're addressing people living in the NYC area. Take a deep breath and start over.

I found that googling coin shop doesn't lead to many stores, especially in NYC. Most of these stores are little shops that will get bumped out of google listings by the big name dealers, mostly in other places. With that been said I only go to 2 stores near me. One is on 25th street in Manhattan and the other one is in Queens Astoria.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Try searching for coin dealers using your zip code as part of the search criteria. You'll get better results.

What's the one on 25th street?

My search only turns up 4 shops. I found this guy on 3rd ave in the low 70s in Brooklyn. He tends to have old coins but sells at a pretty big premium. Bought 10 mercury dimes in bad condition for 60 bucks. But he sweetened the deal with a 1955s penny in uncirculated condition. Thanks for the responses. Sorry if I came off mean but I dislike when my thread gets hijacked through unnecessary criticism.
