This coin and six others I will attempt to post tonite are not (yet) in my possession. All the pics were taken in haste a couple months ago during a family health crisis. Better pics will be available in mid-January, if this forum finds that necessary or desirable.

As with the others, I have no knowledge of authenticity. All came from a long dead uncle, into my Dad's hands...I'll have them soon.

All your comments are most welcome...even bad news. Thanks

Coin looks ok, just looks like a brillo pad was taken to it.

Yup. My guess is that Uncle was a Coin Scrubber. Lotsa scratches on nearly everything he had. Sigh.

Yes, harsh cleaning is very common with these coins. I have many specimens and have seen many in museums. When you buy a Peru sol, 1. a good coin is complete or almost completely covered in black silver sulphide residue (not scratched) that cannot be removed with acetone soak 2. the coin should have a nice cartwheel when not covered in black residue to ensure surface still intact and not removed by cleaning. I stick with these criteria. Most years are very common and I have not seen a fake yet.

Attached is a 1916 with nice cartwheel and golden toning.
