That's a real nice high-grade piece but it really looks like its artificially toned. Does it have cartwheel luster?
The obverse image won't enlarge but base on the images I like the coin. With that said, I feel it has been messed with. The colors don't look right to me.
For most collectors yes. Collectors don't like there coins being tampered with and therefore there is a lot less demand for AT coins which in turn means the value of the coin will go down as well.
It can still be graded, but my opinion is that both NGC and PCGS would put it in a details graded holder as some AU grade with questionable/artificial color noted in the certification number.
I think if you're lucky it could come back as UNC details. If it were without AT it could have been worth at least over $1000 but with AT it's real hard to say. A coin is only worth how much someone is willing to pay. I don't think you'll get anywhere around that much for it but you should be able to get some money for it. What I'm trying to say is that it's not worthless.
Well that depends on several factors. First of all, to my initial question, does it have cartwheel luster? I would pay slightly more if the coin has retained even a little bit of its cartwheel luster. If I were you though, I wouldn't bid on it.
When folks yank down their images after receiving some answers it makes the thread worth less and sometimes makes it essentially useless. In those cases, the folks who yank the images run the risk of not receiving help in the future.
So it sold for $130 and I don't think that $130 is too unreasonable but it really depends on how it looks in hand. Did you win the item or did someone else machete714? Personally I don't like AT coins in my collection so I wouldn't dare touch it but it really depends on the taste of the collector. Please take no offense to this machete and please correct me if I'm wrong, but are you a beginner level collector? If so I suggest that you learn how to spot an AT coin as opposed to a NT coin because that can save you from making expensive mistakes. Some people lose a lot of money not realizing that their new coin has been meddled with.
It wouldn't hurt I guess but more than likely it will come back as a PCGS Genuine Slab. This means that they won't assign a numerical value and they will also mention that it has "Questionable Color". On the other hand if PCGS slabs this coin it is guaranteed to be a real coin unless of course it comes back in a body bag. Are you planning on selling it or keeping it for your collection if you don't mind me asking? because this choice may make a difference.
