Tang Dynasty Coin 1839 Colonial 'New York Penny' Netherlands 2 1/2 cent: 1919, 1929 Netherlands East Indies cent 1938 Mexico 1927 five Centavos
I'm actualy dieing to see the other side of it, I'm hoping it is an Indie but probably just a VOC add to that i think the 2.5c peices pretty neat lol
1839 New York colonial penny doesn't make sense. They're wrong about something on there since New York was a U.S. state in 1839.
yes but "the new york penny" actualy refers to the Duit specificaly 1730's range. This is I expect either a VOC duit or what I'm hoping it is a Netherland East Indies duit. This is the wrong year but the VOC type and the coin actualy refered to as a new york penny and shares a very similar crest on the reverse as in the below pic. This is what believe and hope I'm actualy getting which even in the below condition sells for about 20 bucks (at least the ones i have seen )
So is the classification as a New York penny a mistake in terminology or is that actually what it's called? I've seen the Dutch East Indies coins before, and I know a lot of sellers in Indonesia describe them as from New York, but I don't know where they get that from.
back before the declaration of independance in early colonial NY there was a lack of currency as they had yet to develop any of their own. What they did have was some small amounts of english currency but these trade coins were so heavily in use they came to be called the 1st currency of NY "The New York Penny" long pretty story, but in the end they are all still Duits. Besides my 1732 duit is lonely this way I have 2 and maybe they make more lil duits for me
