I want to get either the prooflike morgan or the set, the set costs 175 bucks, the dollar, 130.
A little advice would be helpful.

You can get the Morgan for about $100, but the SAE's are in the NGC "Retro" slab which will only be used for a limited time and only for certain denominations (I think). I'd get the SAE's.

I would pass on that particular Morgan. Imo, the haziness on the reverse is really distracting. Also, from those pics it looks like it just made the pl designation; the obv looks pretty reflective, but the rev looks a little soft. Are you just interested in a PL Morgan in general? If so, a common PL date in 64 is within your budget. Paying a little extra for a higher grade is really worth it with PL/DPL Morgans, imo, just because the reflective surfaces tend to magnify marks/hits.

    Thanks. I'll take the ASEs.

Hold out for a nicer Morgan - that's common date in common grade. And don't think just because it's in a "Rattler" holder that it's somehow a "premium quality" example...

The ASE's would be the wisest choice, IMHO.

I would probably just save a little longer and get a nice DMPL morgan.

If you can throw another $100 on it, I would suggest the NGC 2012 S ASE set 70/70 in the retro holders.

why is the morgan upside down in the holder ?

I think the old holders let the coins move around a little.

Indeed, hence the "rattler" nickname for the old PCGS holders.

    Heck.....Raider beat me to it.

To the OP: I think you should question what it is you like to collect. Morgans and ASE's are worlds apart.........Wait a second. Maybe not. Both initially were bullion coins. :)

Neither can I. Go 69/69. Morgans like that are everywhere.

I say ASEs too. Think you'll be happier in the long run and you're getting two coins with the ASEs.

As much as I love morgans I would have to say the ASEs. You can find a nicer morgan for that price range.

Wise choice. When I saw the title, I was thinking that it was a no brainer, the Morgan everytime. But between your choices, you made the correct choice. Congrats on the nice set.

I know they say buy the coin not the holder, but I love the NGC Retro's!
