I have this 1841 large cent that appears to have been cut. I can't really say much else about it because I don't know. I can say that apart from being cut, it also has a strange spot underneath the date on the obverse at 6 'o clock, and a similar spot on the reverse at high noon. Has anyone seen a coin similar to this one? Is this an error, or did some individual cut this coin for whatever reason? Here are some pictures.

I don't know what to say---it kindof looks like a double clip....but it doesn't look right for some reason.
I'm going to say that untill I can be more sure its damaged---I'm going to move this to the Error fourm and maybe Mike can tell us for sure.

I don't know about the clip/cut, but the rim dings look to me like what would be left if someone held the coin very tightly with a pair of pliers.

    Hi,

I THink it was damaged too. I think a long time ago it was held up against a sanding wheel. You can see metal that has been folded over along the straight edge. I think the other mark would be where the coin was gripped with pliers to hold it against the wheel.
