Folks - I hope this isnt too irritating, but can you look at this and let me know if you see the re-punched 1 on the right side of it??

If i am not crazy, has anyone heard of it being a variety??

Thanks and have a great day!

Yeah, it does look re-punched. Nice find!

I see what you are talking about, but it looks md to me. My book does not describe any repunching on the varieties it might be.

It had better be repunched, all 1828 N-10's have the 18 repunched. The repunching on the 8 is not as dramatic but can be seen at 3 o'clock on the upper loop.

Interesting. No where can I find it mentioned about the re-punched date on the N-10. Had to go to heritage just to get a picture big enough and nice enough to notice the recutting. Looks more prominent on the 8 than the one on the 64 I was looking at. I don't even notice it on some of the lower grade coins - especially around the 1.

It probably isn't mentioned much because it is not needed to identify or confirm the variety. You see those script S type 8's that is all you need to confirm N-10, only die and only variety with them.

In my case when he mentioned the repunching I reached over and grabbed my copy of the Dan Holmes II sale catalog and there was a nice enlarged picture of the date showing the repunching. (enlarged picture of the date is not available online And the enlarged picture begins to pixilate before the recutting becomes clear.) And in the lot description

    Lot 269

    1828 N-10 R1. Small Date. Repunched 18.

......MDS. The fields show microscopic radial die flowlines but the repunching on the 18 remains sharp.
