I found a coin today that I have been hunting for a while. I was in a coin shop in FL and found this very nice 1858/7 flying eagle as well as a 1894/1894 IHC, both unattributed for a total of $50. I will get some better pics up when I get home and have access to a non iphone camera. It looks to be an earlier die state with the point of the 7 still visible. Additionally, the broken wingtip is very visible. I believe it is a solid VF coin too.
That's a nice looking flying eagle there - but I really can't tell anything from the first picture. I agree it's a solid VF. VF30 at least, I think.
That's one heck of a find!!!! I look for those all of the time and have found several 94/94 IHCs, but never an 8/7 FE!!!! Sweeeeeeeeet!!!!! :thumb:
I got home tonight and took a few more pics. The separated wingtip level, makes me think this is die stage A. If anyone can help identify the die stage I would appreciate it. The repunched 7 was hard to get a pic of. It can be seen better under a 10x loop than in the pictures. Here is the 1894/1894 as well. It has a small spot on it between ME, but overall very nice details. The luck streak continued as I picked a 1873 Closed 3 S1 "Double Liberty" in G4 for $20 yesterday evening. Ill post pics of that one too. Been a good week! I gave myself a nice Christmas gift for my collection with all these!
There are a few marks on the obverse. I really didn't look to hard at those until you pointed that out. I cant really see anything under naked eye, but they sure show on the picture!
