I think that this statement pretty much says it all. He just doesn't get it and won't take responsibility for his own outcomes. Learning how to tell the difference between a good opportunity and every other opportunity is a skill. If everyone could do it...

Since when has any branch of the US Government mislead it's citizens :rollling: ?... On the other hand, does anyone really think that President Obama would act on a letter complaining about the US Mint Director and his staff's misleading information? I'm pretty sure as long as the US Mint keeps striking coins for commerce and the Federal Reserve keeps printing notes; their isn't much of a problem for him to act on. Now if every coin-press failed and the Fed ran out of paper; that's a problem. If the US Government didn't mislead it's citizens on a daily basis; there would be no US Government in place today as we know it

Green, thanks for clearing that up. My situation resembles SQG above. I make buying decisions based on all available info at the time...which was not above-table in this case. Discovering varieties is fun: having to discern the truth from the mint is not. At least grant this situation negatively affects the collector.

    Clint:

I am not trying to be an agitator, I am sincerely curious. How is the collector hurt? He got his set. If you're talking value then that's not a collector, that's a speculator and they get hurt all of the time, but that's the risk that they take when they speculate.

How did this negatively impact a collector?

What if Grandpa bought 10 sets, one for each of the grandkids, wanting to buy them coins unique to a set. Turns out they are not unique to that set, which blows the whole plan. Would the kids care either way? Probably not, but the Grandpa IS harmed, no?

Or, a collector likes to buy 100 sets of every set from the mint with unique coins. He goes on sabbatical while the news is released one of the coins is NOT unique...

And so on. ETA: And why not for the person who only had $154 expendable income, just bought one and didn't hear of the currency set?

The principle of the matter IS the point, and the mint showing it is not trustworthy is neither good for the collector nor for the mint itself.

LOL, It has nothing to do with personal responsibility, it has to do with changing the rules at the end of the game.

Does anybody else find it amazing that a thread about the U. S. Mint's mediocre crapola products gets 5 pages of chatter in a day, whereas other mints that actually produce creative, interesting and attractive coins get very little attention?

Doesn't the seller have a responsibility, too? At what point is misinformation to be considered harmful? What if the mint said the Gettysburg puck is sold out, and then they decide to sell another 500 "for one month only?" If you can't depend on good info, I guarantee there will be FEWER collectors of new issues from the mint...and my friends, that does indeed harm ALL collectors.

Believe it or not, letter writing does work, the more letters the better. Having worked for the Feds, I knows how an agency’s director runs around peeing their pants when an inquiry is received from even a congress person, let alone the president. And, believe me, even smaller personal issues get addressed this way.

If you sit back and take it, be assured you’ll get a lot more of it.

Love ya, tree, but imagine how many new collectors may be thinking...I missed out on the 2012 RP set, maybe I can get in on the 2013! Or, I missed out on the buffalo fractionals, I hope the mint makes 'em this year! And...I hope the mint deals fairly! Give 'em a taste of the RP, and next thing you know, they'll buy a puck :hail:

Herein lies the crux of my argument, Clint. Your information that this would be a set with two exclusive coins didn't come directly from the US Mint. It came from Coin World.

But Coin World didn't sell you the coin, so you depended on information outside of the seller.

It would be like a thread here on CoinTalk saying that I spoke to a US Mint source and he said that the 2013 Native American Dollar in the Proof Set would be exclusive to the Proof Sets and then the Mint decides to release a new set with a proof Native American Dollar in it. You can't blame the Mint for bad info that you got here, can you?

"It came from Coin World", what does that mean? It came from Coin World's interview with a mint representative.

If you can tell me what issue, I can go back to the original article and we'll quote what it says. Sound like a fair enough way to see who's right?

    Here's one: http://www.coinworldonline.com/articles/mint-risks-killing-a-golden-goose-with-proof-/

"In a July 26 statement, Tom Jurkowsky, director of the U.S. Mint’s Office of Public Affairs, noted that, 'In retrospect, it may have been appropriate to announce our intentions to produce the Coin & Currency Set earlier in the year or perhaps simultaneously with the Two-Coin Set.' Indeed."

    Another: http://www.coinworld.com/articles/exclusive-proof-1-no-longer-exclusive-to-san-/

"The Reverse Proof coin in the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver set remains exclusive to that set, U.S. Mint officials said July 19, and will not be offered separately or in any other 2012 set.U.S. Mint officials confirmed July 19 that development of the 2012 Making American History Coin and Currency set was under way prior to the May 2 announcement of the two-coin set. The officials also apologized for the lack of communication that led Mint customers to believe the Proof 2012-S American Eagle silver dollar would be available only in the two-coin set."

Vetstudent you really need to get control of your thread here it kind of took a direction of its own.
speaking of the 2013 mint schedule has anyone noticed on it that they are not making the America the beautiful 'S' mint mark rolls of quarters.
    wonder what is up?

What's up with the 2013 set? Any speculations? Will it be a fiasco like 2012? What fiasco?

Sir, this is EXACTLY the direction it had to take, while awaiting any concrete news.

What else is there to say? Burnished, proof, RP, W, UHR...O.K.!

You guys had anything you had to say about speculation back on page one of this thread. The last five pages you guys have been ranking on each other like kids in a school yard.

Last I heard, the mint has stopped production of the 2012-s business strike atb’s in order to start production of the 2013’s. There’s a thread that talks about this. Of course who knows with the mint, since we can’t even rely on statements made by their representatives.

It may sound like that, but we really all love one another. All the hate issues are with that monopoly, the us mint.
