I think the Peace Dollar is an insipid design. Also, there are few really beautiful Peace Dollars, what with poor strikes, and toning is almost never attractive. It is a dull series--while Morgans have always been one of the most collected coins. The one good thing about Peace Dollars is that a complete set in MS is actually affordable easily---basically two tough dates.
How do you figure? Beautiful interpretation of Lady Liberty on the obverse, and a very cool eagle design on the reverse.
This is a tough choice, but I voted for the Peace. Part of my decision process was deciding, if I had to sell, which one from my type collection would go first. A tough choice for me, for sure, but I like my Peace best.
It's easy to figure - what's your favorite ice cream ? Now what kind do you not like at all ? No difference with coins, they're just chocolate and vanilla too.
I don't know about the ice cream idea, I guess you could look at it that way if you want but I have a little better system I use. Number one is I've never really cared for the Morgan design at all, it always looks like the coin is from the 1800's even if it's a 1921. When I was growing up both were being used at the casino's in their slot machines. Can you imagine, people were just ploppin' them in the one arm bandits, one by one day after day. All of a sudden, they stopped using silver dollars and started using tokens. The silver dollars were worth alot more quickly, but the bottom line is the Peace Dollar has a better design IMHO and number two is they look better toned than a Morgan. If you need a number 3, the Peace Dollar has a high relief year and the Morgan don't. Hands down, the Peace Dollar womps all over the Morgan, jmho.
It's exactly the same idea. By your own words - - it is purely a matter of taste. With ice cream, it's the way it taste in our mouths that makes us like one or the other. With coins, or cars, or the shirt on your back - it is your taste in those things that make you like one and dislike another. What we "like", is what it's all about. And "like" equals taste.
Random thought/digression (apologies in advance): Do Morgans have greater appeal to old hippies/people who did acid, or what?
This is why I voted Peace - years ago I assembled a complete set in MS, and it didn't set me back so much that I couldn't collect other pieces whenever whim dictated. Also, she's the hottest Miss Liberty on all US coins. Still love Morgans though - apples and oranges.
