Hello all. I am new to the forum and would like to show off one of my more prized possessions. It's probably not worth much because of the damage but it still has some interesting historical significance. What do you think that bad boy is worth in this condition. It seems like it has some damage or mint error clip on its left side in the bottom picture. Is there anything I can do to restore it at all? Any recommended storage and treatment? Thanks Larry
Only a couple bucks, sorry to say. These were the zinc issues that easily corroded. The damage to the edge is just the zinc chipped off. I have some cleaned ones that look brand new, and they are only worth a couple bucks. I'm not sure how to clean zinc, but I'm sure someone here does. Cleaning it at this point would not hurt the value.
I agree that the Nazi era coins are a little neat because of the historical significance, but most are very common. If you browse the world coins for sale on eBay, it seems like about 1 in 20 is a Nazi coin.
I once looked up this coin and found it was worth 35 bucks in good condition but this coin is probably worth much less. I guess considering I found it in my cash register at work I was very pleased
That's not your normal cash register find. Normally Wheat cents, and silver quarters. Well, in America at least.
Looking on e-bay, I see these from $0.99 - $300. It all depends on shape, etc. As far as cleaning it, I have really had no luck with zinc, that is to bring it to a lighter color. Use water and possibly even some mild soap and a toothbrush to remove loose crud, dry it off thoroughly and give it a light coating of oil. This might decrease collector value, but would make it look better.
