I wanted to share some photos from our trip to the Nevada State Museum/U.S. Mint. My wife and kids hadn't been there before, and I grew up about 20 minutes from Carson City. Thought it would be nice to display some photos from the mint exhibit for those that have not visited the museum before. Coin Press #1 Norm Biltz Collection - one of each CC coin in every denomination, most of which are Mint State.
And here's a selection of cancelled dies. The pitted examples were recovered from a scrap pile at the mint, there was an example of a rust clump of about 10 dies that I failed to take a photo of.
And of course, I could not visit the museum without taking a photo of this civil war issue gatling gun. The museum had a really nice antique arms and armor display. Overall, they did a fantastic job with the expansion.
Doesn't it make you drool over especially the CC gold? I just about soiled me breeches when I saw those years ago and it made me endeavour to own some myself - fortunately I do own some CC Libs.
I think those canceled dies are cooler than the coolest of cool. Especially given the fact that they were recovered from a rusting heap of trash.
Makes me want to save for a CC gold coin. Love the photo's. I'll have to check it out someday. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool! I have never seen a canceled die so seeing these historical ones is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
