Hello Everybody: I am wondering what coins any of you have found with a metal detector? I like to metal detect when I get a chance and I have been fairly successful in the past. So far I have found: about $25.00 in modern change 1837 Montreal Half penny Bank token a Smith Brothers Manufacturing Company medal 1911 Barber dime in Good condition 1888 Seated Liberty Love token 1918-D mercury dime in Good condition and about a dozen wheat cents in various conditions Let us read what you have found!
oh yeah, you've got company. There's this one guy here that's always posting cool stuff he finds. Do a search on metal detecting in the little search box up yonder and you'll find something interesting.
My September finds include... 1911 V nickel 2 silver Roseys '57D & 63D 14 Wheaties a 14K Teddy bear pendant a bit over $50 in clad.
I have only gotten the chance to go out a couple times, the most interesting thing I found was a civil war veteran grave marker, issued by the chester county sheriff's office. Chester county is in PA.
I go out occasionally with my son, but we've only found pocket change, pens, belt buckles, boat parts, and things like that. Nothing of significant monetary or historical value.
finds All I have found so far is modern coins, but I haven't been out much since I got my new detector. I can't wait to find some older properties to look on.
The absolute best places to hunt are old houses in the boonies. Drive out of town, and look for an old 2 story brick house circa 1850 or older. 9 times out of 10 the owners will let you search. I always offer the owners anything that I find, MOST let you keep everything, a few take a coin or 2, and so far only 1 took everything! My oldest coin... and 1846 large cent Good luck!
I love to go detecting but have found it hard to go to the better places here in my small hometown. There is a school that has been closed almost 25 years. It was built in 1929 and no one can tell me i can go.When i ask the school about it they said the land was owned by the taxpayers and they could not say it would be ok.When i said i was a taxpayer they replyed with you are but one and if i went i could be sighted for tresspassing. And i was lol. When i ask land owners about going on property they own that no one lives there and the old home is falling in most will ask why do you want to go and what will i find. Most after i say i hope to find some old coins and if they like ill show them my find and share it with them if there is something like a ring that was lost.99% of the time i get the i dont think you should go.Hope most of you are more lucky than i.I always fill in the small holes i dig and never leave any trash behind. But it is both a relaxing and sometimes rewarding hobby. The newer coins being minted today will be scarce to find as most of you have seen pennys that you see left over a short time are already being eat up from acid rains and weather.Very little chance they will be as the strong copper pennys found today.HAPPY HUNTING ALL
