I bought 1,200 wheat pennies and I found this Lincoln memorial penny. What could this be made of? Is this an error? Or is this just simply nothing special.

Whack it with a hammer a few times and throw it in a bag of unsearched Lincoln cents to sell on SleazeBay.

PMD. I'd say that you should also spray paint it.

I would take a magnifying glass and look real hard. Say to yourself Would this have gone through minting like this?? I kind of doubt it with the front wear. But What I do with Kennedy half's is just keep looking and say its been this many years what may have someone done to cause this. You will most of the time second guess yourself but usually its post mint damage. Unless that's a part of another penny stamped there that we cannot see in the pics. Also look at another penny where the date is supposed to be and look real hard with the glass or loupe at yours for any sign it was there before the wear .
    THAT'S MY INFLATION 2 CENTS

I think saying it went through an acid bath would be an understatement, maybe a nuclear explosion would be more accurate. I love PMDs so great find!

It may be a wartime steel penny but in that condition has no value

Looks like the marks of pliers, perhaps to hold in heat.
