Hi everyone. I found this penny in my coin collection and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of it. Is it a real error or is it a fake? also what would you estimate its value and rarity?
I've often wondered how do you tell the difference between a clipped planchett and a coin someone intentionally cut?
It's gonna weigh less than a normal cent, I don;t think weighing is the issue. The issue is whether this is a clipped planchett or PMD. It is kind of hard to tell without having a close look. However, this is looking PMD.
That would be better, but I still think PMD by the way the rim cuts off abruptly instead of sloping down into the field.
A way to determine this is by looking for the "blakesley effect". Essentially, in a coin with a true clip, the rim directly opposite of the clip will be weak or not formed well.
The one in front of Lincolns face might be legit, but I would say the one below ONE CENT is not. Important word missing, "usually", should be placed after the word "will".
