I have 4 coins that are in NGC regular slabs. I want to send them in to be reslabbed in the scratch resistant holders. Are these holders REALLY scratch resistant? The regular ones seem to scratch pretty easy. Also, do their regular minimums apply if you are just REslabbing?

Minimums only apply for grading services. I've never requested the scratch-resistant holder, so I can't say if they live up to the name.

Here's a tip. If you want your slabs to stay pristine, but some baseball card sleeves. They fit slabs perfectly and will keep them from being scratched up.

Thanks. I'll give that a try . Is the sleeve pliable enough they will still fit in the NGC slab box with the sleeve on, or do you have to take them off?

I use the sleeves and they're perfect. No need to remove them to fit PCGS or NGC coins in their boxes.

As for the scratch resistant NGC holders I'll say this. When they do scratch the flaws are virtually impossible to remove with plastic polish.

NGC slabs in general are very difficult to maintain. I shoot pictures for many dealers and face this problem all the time. PCGS uses a harder plastic and PlastX or Novus can usually remove all but the worst. NGC slabs are a b!tch.

Thanks for the tip. So that vintage sleeve is about the right size for a slab? I'm looking on UltraPro's website and they have quite an assortment of sizes (actually I didn't even find the ones you show on their site until I blew up your picture and searched by the item number).

Just an updated note on this. I picked up some of these sleeves the other day to try out. Both NGC an PCGS slabs slide easily in the 2 3/4 x 3 15/16 vintage sleeves shown above. They are a little tall with some left over plastic at the top. It's not a huge deal but I personally would like a way to fold it over at the top and secure. However that would introduce some sort of adhesive into the mix which probably wouldn't be the best idea. Instead I chose to trim them with some scissors. They came in a pack of 50 for $1. As the slabs go in and out easily I would say the sleeves are reusable.

At the same time I also picked up some of the regular card sleeves that measure a slightly smaller 2 5/8 x 3 5/8. These were $1.29 but came in a pack of 100 so you're getting almost twice for you money. In my attempts I could not get a PCGS slab to fit. I think they are a tad thicker than the NGC pieces.

For NGC slabs though I think I actually like these sleeves better. Don't get me wrong; they are extremely tight and take some extra work to get on. Also if you want to remove the sleeve for any reason it's pretty much a given that you are going to just have tear the sleeve off and it is not going to be reusable. That being said I think the fit better in the boxes and are just a cleaner look. Because they are so tight you dont have to worry about holding the sleeve and having the slab slide out and hit the deck. Also because of how tight the fit is I'd say there is less chance of dirt, particles, etc. getting between the sleeve and the slab and scratching it (which scratching is what we're trying to prevent right :)).

Typed on my phone so please ignore all the typos I'm sure I made. ;)
