My first set of the 3 gold 20th anniversary set just arrived. http://faxbrokers.com/gold/revprfobv.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/revprfrev.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/prfobv.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/prfrev.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/uncobv.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/uncrev.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/pkg1.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/pkg2.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/pkg3.JPG http://faxbrokers.com/gold/pkg4.JPG
I really like the reverse proof...very impressive. The normal proof of course is good. However, I don't really care for the 'Uncirculated'. Evidently 'Burnished' means 'not shiny' and the entire coin is dull.
Any of you experts on eagles...I'm new here...should I submit the reverse proof to PCGS? Any benefit to being among the first submissions?
"I do not know about expert's" but I have been collecting these for 12 years now. I am hoping that PCGS will design a holder for the three of them to be graded as a set...only thing though is if each coin had a different grade?? Beats me but I do not think breaking up the set is such a good idea...my opinion only.. RickieB
Pics posted in the initial post of this thread...enjoy These "sets" are not sealed at all. you open the postal package, everything else can be removed without having to break any seals so breaking up the set really won't mean anything...unless its still sealed in plain brown mailing box the mint used.
I also received my 3 coin gold set today and it is beautiful! My gold and silver set came as well and i love it too!
I just read the new "Coin World" online article about the temper's flaring in the collecting world over the Mint offering the Uncirc and Proof 1oz coins at "no limits!! The mint is also going to release all denominations of the AGE and APE (Platinum Eagles) in Uncirc with the "W" mint mark causing yet another rumble in the market! It appears that only the reverse proof 1 oz gold coin will be the rarity of the set! Is itr worth the extra$$$$?? I am considering returning my 3 coin gold set in protest that we were lured into buying a modern rarity set of three coins...which is not the case at all!! Mad as H_ _ _ and I do not mind saying it! RickieB
I won't be buying the whole set, but I may buy a relatively low grade (67, 68, 69, depends on which company graded it ) slabbed Reverse Proof.
Won't the ASE reverse proof also be a relative rarity? I realize not to the level of the AGE reverse proof.
You know, PCGS is offering first strike/ 20th anniversary for all the coins only if they are unopened from the mint shipping packaging. that also includes the regular proof that was release early this year. this info was released on PCGS on the 25th. I don't see how anyone can just send off their coins without opening it and inspecting them.
If the W UNC sells for $720 from the Mint and I see where I can buy a 2006 proof from California Numismatics for $780, then that leaves a price of $1100 for the reverse proof. Is this coin worth $1100? It appears to be the only unique coin in the set now. I wonder if it is better to spend the $2610 on an Indian Head or St. Gaudens? Any comments? I first posted this on the gold/silver set thread. I just realized I made a mistake and posted it to the wrong thread!
Please DON'T send the gold set back !!! that one coin ..the reverse proof will more than make up for any bad feelings you have now. It's a keeper and will become the most deperately sought eagle in time. Be patient and you will come out on top. Cancel the gold/silver for sure ...but you are fortunate to have the gold set in the first place at least in my opinion.
Andrew289 - thank you for you opinion (and also for the comments on the gold/silver thread where I posted this incorrectly). I tend to think you are correct, but there sure seems to be a lot of negativity now that the reverse proof is the only unique coin in the set. My fear is that the mint will start producing these in the future, which will cause this coin to lose some of it uniqueness. It will still be the first one, but not the only one. Who knows how this will impact the desirability of this coin if that happens.
Very true. I have the same fear (that they will release the reverse proof as a single coin). I was really ****ed that they released the unc coin taking it from 30,000 minted to who knows how many now. I can't see them making the same mistake twice but they were dumb enough do do it once. I think if they were going to do it, they would have done it seeing as it wasn't included in their Holiday Offerings. The end of year is approaching and they are running out of time. Hopefully, they will concentrate on the unc gold and the 3 coin silver set and not touch the reverse proof gold.
