Not something I'm going to go crazy with as it is only bullion but more and more I'm seeing copys of some of my favorite coins on 1 gram silver rounds (about dime size) The 1st one I couldn't resist was a 1 gram ASE (have posted previously here) today I saw another I couldn't resist. Now I think I'm going to keep an eye out for more. There is something that attacts me to to these little 1 gram beauties. Part of it being the coins they have chosen to copy and the other the price (dirt cheap as in 2-3 dollars each usualy) I think I may just pick up something along the lines of a Dansco dime album to store them in if I do pick up many more. This is the one I bought today.
Only have the ASE in hand so far this IH was the 2nd I bought. The ASE is absolutly beautiful in hand mirror finish though some of the details are a bit grainy when magnified. (quick pics sorry if a lil darkish)
That one is cool too. I don't blame you for adding them into your collection/side collection. And they're silver too, they get extra points!
Stacked up against a dime do you think they would fit well in the dansco page without moving around much?
Gram sized rounds huh, interesting. So that's like 1/30 of an ozt. How tiny is that little thing? Pretty cool though. They do; well kinda but they are currently out of stock. APMEX has 3 different where they somewhat matched up the denomination of classic coins with fractional % of silver. Quarter dollar = Quarter ozt, etc. http://www.apmex.com/Product/60934/1_4_oz_APMEX_Standing_Liberty_Quarter_Silver_Round_999_Fine.aspx http://www.apmex.com/Product/60935/...iberty_Half_Dollar_Silver_Round_999_Fine.aspx http://www.apmex.com/Product/60933/1_10_oz_APMEX_Mercury_Dime_Silver_Round_999_Fine.aspx
Well, I know they are a bit smaller then a dime so would rattle a bit in a dime album. The only other choice i see is putting them in 2x2s in an album, 2x2s are ok for storage, but I'm thinking more for display purposes for which i think 2x2s are ugly. In the end I think a Dansco dime album with a bit of black mounting foam to prevent rattleing is how i will go for these. That way is secure and still makes for a nice presentation when showing em off.
Never ordered from them (actually just found the site) so I can't comment on their legitimacy but this site looks like it has all the 1 gram designs you could ever want. http://www.cmcmint.com/silver?cat=18 Edit: Oh my. Scratch that. While it may give you an idea of some of the designs that are out there; my guess is you're not going to want to hand out the $19.99 shipping or wait 2-3 weeks for delivery. EDIT2: Man I just searched ebay for 1 gram silver rounds. They make everything under the sun don't they. The little Canadian wildlife ones were funny.
I've bought the 1/10 ozt rounds from apmex and provident. Sure, they're way over priced as far as premium goes, but I like having them around. What about a half dime album? That'd probably be just right. Personally, gram sized rounds don't interest me. I've seen some 1 gram bars that are kind of neat, but never bought anything smaller than 1/10 ozt.
My main interest in these is from a collection stand point. It seems like there is an awesome variety and they represent so many different types and eras of coinage. Also, I'm expecting my first child soon, and this would be an interesting way to stay in the collecting hobby at a lower cost while still having the thrill of new mintage coming in on a consistant basis. I did look into the Dansco album idea and I found a place that has blank 16mm port sized pages (16 ports per page). My thought is to get a "Silver Rounds" book and substitute in the new 16mm port pages. Very cohesive design (I think that is the early stages of OCD setting in) with little wiggle room. Thanks again for the great idea!
